The Beaches >
As this is a muslim country, the beaches in the centre of Alexandria are not suitable for
women to be seen in swimming costumes or bikinis. However, the beaches outside
Alexandria are suitable. The nearest beach is 25 minutes away in Agami. This is a
private beach for which we have a pass. It is the liveliest of the beaches, especially in
July and August. The Hilton Hotel in Borg Al Arab, also about 25 minutes away has a
pleasant beach and swimming pool which you can use for a charge of 50 LE (£5) per
person per day.
Along the North Coast about one hour away is Aida Hotel, where there is a superb
beach which you can use free if you have a meal there. You can often be there by
yourself though it does get busier in the height of summer.
A little further down the North Coast is the best beach. This is in El Alamein at Sidi
Abdel Rahmen Hotel. This is situated in a picturesque bay. Again you can usually use
this without charge if you have lunch at the hotel.
Going East of Alexandria you have Montaza and Ma'amoura.
